The speedy closing of the Minooka #Smithstrong Invitational 100m
We start with the speed game and Oak Park-River Forest's
Caleb Schulz took charge of things in the 100m with a robust 100m in 10.60. Although it was windy, he proved that his indoor marks were not a fluke. It is going to add to an already potent Huskie 4x1 and 4x2 relay card.
It should be noted Austin Rowswell, Chris Nelson, and Darren Wilson will be a force in the Century and 200m as well. Rowswell is also the leader in the 400m.
The future of distance running appears to be in strong hands with the likes of
Zach Thoman of O'Fallon,
Carter Hayes of Palatine, and
Dylan Maloney of Plainfield South. But how good is
Owynn Garrelts of Maine South whose 9:44 effort in the 3200m is the current class leader? He placed 54th in the
cross country state championship but has competed in many races in 2023.
Ben Crane of New Trier could be the best of them all.
