This freshman class is the first one to follow the freshman class of 2020 that was disrupted because of Covid. While that now senior group is still writing their final chapter, the class of 2026 is in motion and ready to keep track and field going strong.

The star of this class is the world championship record holder in the pole vault, Isaiah Whitaker of Bloomington Central Catholic HS, who has already produced a return on investment throughout his first IHSA indoor season. He was the state leader and broke the Illinois Top Times 1A record and the freshman vault marks everywhere he turned up. Whitaker is of course on the national conscious who has no horizon limits in sight.

Middle-distance runner Owen Horeni is a name that immediately comes to mind. The standout from Yorkville got his start with the Aurora Flyers Track. He ran a combination of races which has prepared for today. Horemi has produced one of the fastest 800m times as a freshman (1:56.34). The s...
