Emily Stecky is no longer in the shadows of her older peers after finishing second in the Distance Night in Palatine's main event, 800 meters. It was there she beat league foe Annika Swan of Chicago St. Ignatius for the second time this year. Stecky roared home in a new state best 2:09.58. She is now more than two seconds faster than her nearest competitor.
Let's talk about some hurdles with Sophia Shapiro of Edwardsville. Over the weekend at the Edwardsville Girls Fr/So Invitational, she copped the state-leading 100HH in a blistering time of 14.10. That mark did not have a wind gauge attached to it, but nonetheless was impressive. She returned several hours later and clocked 44.45 in the 300H, just off of her IL#3 44.30. She also leads in the 400 w/57.40.
