It was a very tumultuous period during and shortly after the restrictions of Covid-19 were lessened in 2021. Things were so bad that one prominent coach stated, "we had the worst freshmen class in our school history." Unfortunately, being isolated took its toll on many programs, established and emerging. It has been said that one bad freshman class can put a team two years in the rear.
The 2022 season is officially over and the current junior class performed well. The overall top time was performed by Dylon Nalley of Marion who ran 14:03. He won the 2A state championship. In fact, all three classification winners were juniors- 1A Gavin Genisio, 3A Aden Bandukwala- which is healthy for the sport.
