What a week! Last Thursday was conference. It was a relatively short week in terms of mileage as we began to taper. Also, our speed workout consisted of six 400s with five minute rests in between each to recover fully. I ran an average of just under 59 seconds for each. I

Wow, this season is just flying by. It is now post season time, at least what I consider to be post season. Conference is this week, sectionals next, then Charleston for the last time. I couldn’t ask for a crazier final season with all the weather and meet cancellations, but as a team we were able to overcome the lack of competitive races and weather and grind it out through the season.

I am writing this blog on Tuesday, where has time gone! This past week was my senior prom. Yes, I'll admit it was kind of bittersweet. Before we get to that, I must talk about the crazy weather going on in Central Illinois: rain, rain, and more rain. As you may have heard, there were record rainfalls this past week. It was crazy. The riverfront area in downtown Peoria was and still is completely flooded over, and the river is almost the highest it has ever been. On top of all this rain, it snowed during my Friday meet. Snow in April is unbelievable, but it is Illinois and you can't expect anything.

Peoria Notre Dame track made history this past week. As a team, we only had one meet, but it was a big meet against our rival, Richwoods High School. The rivalry between the schools is huge regardless of the sport. They crush us in football every year, basketball is usually closer (this year we beat them twice which ended up as a big surprise) and soccer and cross-country we always win.

This week I’m going to talk about my training and the college process for Mizzou since that took up most of my week. First off, Monday was the day before a meet but I still ran seven miles. I had my first outdoor meet on Tuesday at home. It was a nice change from my Monday practice allowing me to run different distances.

This week I want to share a quick rundown of my running, talk about the little things I'm doing during the season  that will hopefully help get me back to Charleston and my Easter break.

Hello all, back with an update with my running. On Monday, I went on a long distance run and for me, which meant eight miles. It was a relatively easy day with stride-outs after and a nice core workout. Tuesday, we had an IHSA official come to the high school to talk about the rules of track & field. It turns out, track & field is twenty times more complicated than soccer. The clinic lasted for over 90 minutes going over every detail you need to know about the sport.

Hello again, I’m back with an update on my track season thus far, first indoor meet, and other random happenings throughout the week. This past week, I had a chance for a few quick workouts rather than going on long runs and building my base. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday were all long run days. I would do either stride outs (sprint for 50m or 100m) focusing on form or technique strides (high knees, butt kicks, and others).

Hello again, I’m here with a little update on my running. This past week was amazing since I had the chance to spend the majority of it in Scottsdale, Arizona. I got the opportunity to run some pretty intense hills, hike the mountains, put together two 1,000 piece puzzles, and relax by the pool in 75-degree weather while Illinois experienced a snow storm.

Hello everyone, my name is Grant Inskeep and I am a first time blogger. I would like to thank Todd Grasley and MileSplit Illinois for giving me the opportunity to blog for their website. I currently live in Dunlap, Illinois and attend Peoria Notre Dame High School. I play soccer every fall and run track in the spring. This past soccer season, my team went 22-2-2 and then, went on to win our second state title and fourth in program history. I was the starting forward scoring two of the three goals in the final game. It was such a thrill to end my soccer career the way I did. Now I can focus on track, my main sport. I am a mid-distance runner with my favorite event being the 800m. As part of my training, I also run the 400m or 1600m.
