In His Own Words: Grant Inskeep

This week I’m going to talk about my training and the college process for Mizzou since that took up most of my week. First off, Monday was the day before a meet but I still ran seven miles. I had my first outdoor meet on Tuesday at home. It was a nice change from my Monday practice allowing me to run different distances. I ran the 4x800m, anchoring with a 2:05 and we won the race handily. Then I had about an hour break before the 1600m, so I helped time and move hurdles. I ran a 4:54 mile winning by about ten seconds. Right after the mile was the 4x400m giving me about ten minutes of rest. I ran the third leg and put out a 54 second split, we won easily. It was a pretty decent first meet considering the weather. My high school track is situated on a hill so on days where it is windy it's 10x worse up on 'the hill'.'

Wednesday was a recovery distance run; I ran a little over seven miles and then I went to lift at the Human Performance Lab. On Thursday, I ran a six mile block with three two-minute surges in the run. I would pick up the pace for one minute and then even more so for the second minute. I did an ab workout when I got back. Friday, I was back on the track for another speed workout. I ran a 5 X 1000m with about four minutes in between each. It was hard to pace myself on the first one not having run one in a long time. I settled in on the seconds one and went a little faster each one. My mom decided she would show up to practice so she could get pictures for the blog. Above is a picture of just the distance team, which is about half of the whole track team. Saturday was an hour run around town.

Now, I want to talk a little bit about my college registration process.  First, I had to submit an enrollment fee and an e-consent. Then, about a month ago, I filled out my NSRO or New Student Registration and Orientation to reserve a spot for me at one of the Mizzou Summer Welcome orientations. I will attend a June session. About a week ago, I had to complete the ALEKS math placement, which took about 90 minutes to take. I then took a 5-hour review session to brush up on my math skills and decided to retake it. I ended up testing into Calculus I for the first semester, which is what I hoped. This week, I was to fill out a housing and dining contract to have a meal plan for the 2013-2014 calendar year. I ended up going with the middle meal plan not really sure how many meals I would need since I can also have meals at the MATC, the Mizzou Athletic Training Complex. By completing the contract, I also reserved myself a room in one of the dorms. This week I also had to contact the office of admission to change my enrollment date from the Fall of 2013 to the Summer of 2013 so I could go down to campus early and run with any of my future teammates that might be down there for the July Summer session as well. Since English/ Writing classes are my least favorite subjects I plan to get a required English course out of the way and not have to worry about them during XC season. On April 14th, I will get to fill out my ROAR or Residents Online Access to Rooms. I get to pick which dorm I live in and who my roommates will be.

On Tuesday, I have a dual meet against a cross-town rival, Richwoods High School. Then on Saturday I will retake the ACT in hopes of getting more scholarship money.
