The children are the future as they say. It will be interesting to see how successful the current underclassmen crop can be in 2022.

The season is still very young but the freshman and sophomore boys class is starting to show some promise. Let's start with Dylan Maloney of Plainfield South. As a freshman last year, he made his team's state roster and ran 15:21 in Peoria. The track season was just as successful for Maloney as he dropped 9:28 and 4:29 marks.
With a dozen boys already at 16:30 or better, this is promising considering aces Benjamin Gibson (So., Chicago Latin) and Zach Thoman (So., O'Fallon) haven't competed yet.
There will be more to come as we proceed into September.
