Eight of the top ten performers are back, including the leading three sophomores. Though the "quarter-mile" is not as strong as the other speed events, it is still competitive. There is a feeling in the air that some stout times are going to parlay all over the leaderboards.
Check out a summary of the top returners-
Madalyn Marx (Jr., Mahomet-Seymour): Top returner by time and 2A Illinois Top Times champion. Marx was also the state champion, and it would be tough to face her.
Mariyah Robinson (Jr., Homewood-Flossmoor): A 57.47 performer last winter has now switched allegiance from the Chicago Public League to the South Suburban Red will propel Robinson into a new realm. The Vikings are immediately one of the top state trophy chasers in the spring. There is no timetable for a debut.
Morgan Navarre (Jr., Elmhurst York): Bust on the scene last year and won four of five contests including the Top Times 3A crown. Navarre is also a talented Lacrosse player, competing simultaneously with track- but not during the indoor season. If she returns, the stakes will be higher as sharks in the water will be hungry and waiting to feast.
Naomi Bey-Osborne (Sr., Kankakee): A premier talent who has signed with the University of Illinois. She is back on the scene with a sassy attitude and the track wheels to match. At the Misfits Invite, Bey-Osborne competed in her first race since a season-ending injury in May 2024. She placed fourth in the 300m with a time of 39.88. She proceeded to let the world know she was back afterward. Expect her to be louder as she continues to elevate.
Katelyn Lehnen (Sr., Chatham-Glenwood): It is hard to believe that the state's top quarter-miler and defending 3A state champion has never run the event indoors!! Lehnen has a personal best of 54.68 as well as All-American honors at New Balance Nationals Outdoors.
Madalyn Marx tore up the track at Vanderbilt last winter en route to an outstanding indoor season (Tennessee Milesplit credit)
