2023 was a very good season in this category, in which 31 runners broke 2:20, and 17 returned back, including the New Balance Nationals indoor champion Allison Ince.
Once her basketball duties conclude in about a month, Ince will be on a mission to cement her name into the forever-talked-about category. She ranks 9th all-time with a 2:04.77 clocking. If all things are equal this winter, she will up the charts, but how far remains to be seen.
Another talented athlete playing a winter sport is Becca Heitzig. The recently crowned 2A cross country champion is currently playing for her basketball team. Heitzig has started her season late over the past few years, which may happen again for the Iowa State University-bound senior.
