With 20 returners under 23 seconds back, this should be an event of strong interest. Top returner Jayon Morrow will compete at the 3A level this upcoming season once he returns shortly after the competition season begins.
Supreme Muhammad is an underrated performer in the area despite going undefeated last year and winning the 1A Top Times title with a personal best of 22.23. He took zero losses during the '23 outdoor season, culminating in an IHSA state title.
Arguably, the hottest sprinter during the early indoor season encounters, Deangelo Hughey, could be the man in this event. Hughey ran 22.50 last year but clocked 22.47 in his only attempt in a preliminary. He has focused on racing the 300 and 400-meter dashes, which theoretically may put him at the top of the list. For example, he has clocked a sizzling 34.45 for the former race.
