Statistically, five of the top ten girls are among the final lot, and three of those girls finished in the top four of the 2A state championship. Annika Swan of Chicago St. Ignatius, Sunny Weber of Sandwich, and Natalie Bierbaum of Normal University placed second through fourth at Detweiller Park. They are among the elite corps and hold a lock on the discipline for several more years.
In the 3A classification, Tessa Russo of Plainfield North and Meg Peterson of Prospect proved to be two of the best girls throughout the season. For the second year in a row, Peterson placed in the top 10 in the state meet. She also improved 10 seconds from a year ago to 17:08. Lily Eddington of Downers Grove North is a new edition from a year and proved worthy of her position at the end of the season by leading her teammates at the Nike Cross Nationals.
