2. Katrina Schlenker (Fr., Batavia) [7]-

There was some of you out there who did not see this freight train coming to crash the party. Schlenker is part of an amazing freshmen group that's on the horizon. Her protege Lianna Surtz made her debut in fine fashion several weeks ago winning the Aurora city meet. Now Schlenker had her moment at the FTTF 3A main event. She stole the show with a great breakdown of each mile like a veteran. She and Molly Fitzpatrick of Barrington broke away from the pack somewhere in the midst of the race and turned it out. Schlenker was a major star prior to coming into high school. Her times of 10:49 (xc), 10:57 (indoor) would have put her on par with the best in the state as an 8th grader. Plus, I know the club coach that she trained with. We had some discussion from time to time regarding training. I am just glad to see that she attended Batavia. They have a solid program with good coaches who will mold her into a champion; next is Minooka Flighted Invitational on 9/15.
