Jayon Morrow has been patient approaching the 2024 indoor track and field season. The senior star from Kankakee is one of the state's elite sprinters. However, prior to last week, he hadn't touched his bread-and-butter events. He participated in out-of-bounds events like the 600 and 800-meter runs.
Morrow was in his comfort zone at the Cabin Fever Invitational, winning a pair of titles. He took down the 300m field with a time of 35.01. Several hours later, he beat his friend and out-of-season teammate Deangelo Hughey (Sr., Mahomet-Seymour) in the 400m 49.03 to 49.04. Hughey is currently the state leader and Morrow now sits in the second position.
