IL Version: New Balance Nationals Indoor Day 1 Set Up

Plainfield South boys will be on display at the New Balance Nationals Indoor in Beantown

======

BOSTON, MA- There will be more representation from the home state at nationals than ever. That's because a solid select group of middle school and emerging elite talent will be ready to challenge themselves.

-----------------

Date: March 7, 2024
Location: Reggie Lewis Center
Schedule: THURSDAY
How to follow: LIVE RESULTS
What to watch for: The first day of competition will commence on the campus of Boston University at the "Reggie," which has served up very nice marks and times over the years. In the meantime, the NCAA Division 1 Championships will occupy the regular Track at New Balance Center.

5:55 pm: The Plainfield South boys are on a mission, and if you don't think so, scroll through what they did in the 4x800m relay at the recent Downers South Mustang Relays. The stakes have gotten a bit higher because of the implications of track and field's longest event: the 4xMile Relay. Last year, the Cougars earned All-American honors with a stellar third-place finish (17:40.60). The quartet of Gavin Borger (Jr.), Dylan Maloney (Sr.), Joaquin DeAlba (Sr.), and Camyn Viger (Sr.) should be in line to smash that time.

6:18 pm: The Barrington girls have ventured beyond state borders on their own accord and competed well recently. They will compete in nationals as a unit for the first time, with the possibility of placing among the top six and earning All-American honors. The fillies quartet of Mia Sirois (Fr), Abby Lewis (So), Kaleigh Burns (Sr), and Scout Storms (Jr) will be stout. It features three 5:00 or better performers in Sirois, Storms and Lewis, with the first two strategically bookended in case someone underperforms. Burns has recently run a big PB of 5:13.

Keep an eye on some prime middle school talent today. Zaven Johnson of the Legacy Runners TC is one of the premier 400m runners in the country. He is an 8th grader and the son of coach Zontavius Johnson. Also, Kass Kurzynski of the Palatine Pac will represent the boy's side.
