Evan Nosek of Kaneland completed the 2021 season as the top freshman in Illinois. The sophomore class to be is expected to provide big dividends this fall. Watch out for Dylan Maloney of Plainfield South who had a solid track season, running 9:30 for 3200m.
Watch for the return of Ben Gibson of Chicago Latin who possesses a boat of talent but was injured for the majority of the spring.
Perhaps a name that was hidden was Zach Thoman of O'Fallon. He ran the fastest 800m by a freshman (1:58.12) in the state. In limited action, Thoman clocked 10:00 in the 3200m.
New Trier's Ben Crane was also in the mix during the freshmen distance sweepstakes, clocking 9:42. Tommy Nitz of Huntley was one of the most well rounded youngsters on the scene during the spring in the 3200, 1600, and 800m. His 9:32, 4:27, and 2:01 marks were impressive.
