2024 was a banner year for the freshmen cross country class. Many of tomorrow's superstar and varsity contributors proved themselves by first earning their way on this list through hard work, maturity, and perseverance. It is time to recognize the top 300 lads!
Let's start with everyone's #1 newcomer, Karanveer Patil, who picked up from middle school and tore through the high school circuit. He may be the best freshman from Lake Zurich since Matt Pereira. Moreover, his 21st place in the state meet (3A deepest league) is the best since Kevin Havel of Hersey took fifth in 2004. In 2016, Jorge Torres (Wheeling HS) and Charlie Kern (York HS) produced 14:36 times in 1995 and 2014. All of his predecessors became well-established in the state's distance community.
