DGS Mustangs Relays Return: The Preview

Prospect will be a team to watch in several races at the DGS Mustang Relays

====

Teams: Lisle Benet Academy, Bolingbrook, Burlington Central, Mundelein (Carmel), Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Oak Park (Fenwick), Geneva, Lombard (Glenbard East), Glen Ellyn (Glenbard South), Fox Lake (Grant), Hinsdale Central, Hoffman Estates, Maple Park (Kaneland), Chicago Lane Tech,  Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East), Lockport, Wilmette (Loyola Academy), Lagrange (Lyons Township), Minooka, Naperville Central, Naperville (Neuqua Valley), Skokie (Niles North), Plainfield East, Plainfield North, Prospect, Proviso East, Riverside-Brookfield, Orland Park (Sandburg), Palos Heights (Shepard), Chicago (St. Ignatius), West Aurora, Wheaton North, Whitney Young, Yorkville.

4x800 (Downers Grove South 9:20.49/2019): The hibernation is over and you better expect a bevy of top marks to flood the leaderboards by Tuesday morning. The state's top time of 9:43.29 will more than likely get evaporated by more than a few squads. The overall best unit from 2021, Prospect, returns all four legs. The Lady Knights had been working on individual marks much of the winter. If they put it all together they may have a shot at the all-time meet record. A possible lineup by coach Pete Wintermute may Lily Ginsberg (So), Audrey Ginsberg (Sr), Hailey Erickson (Jr), and Cameron Kalaway (Jr). Bridget Derengowski (So) and Veronica Znajda (Fr) are potential legs in the waiting. Regardless, they all are sub-2:30 legs and four of them have the potential to be at 2:20 or better.

Hinsdale Central is a team that will battle Prospect. The Red Devilettes top runner Catie McCabe (Jr) is a 2:12 performer and that alone is scary. Her team's seed time of 9:42 is just two seconds slower than the favorites.

The host Mustangs are also seeded at 9:42 and have a crew that features Holly Johnson (Fr) and Sophia McNerney (Sr).

IL#2 Lyons Township come in with a respectable 9:49.37 mark. Overall, 11 of the 12 teams in the "championship" section three have seeds under 10:00.

4x200 (Frankfort Lincoln-Way East 1:41.03/2016): There are six sections here and things will get interesting by the fifth one. It's there where we should see our first winner under 1:50. The final section had the potential of challenging the record but Whitney Young may be without one of its top performers Sydney Robinson (Sr). Her twin sister Rachel Robinson (Sr) will be in the lineup as well as Jayden Eickhoff-Brown (Sr) for a potent force.

Lincoln-Way East was the favorite coming in and could be in the clear of any interference if they maintain clean stick play. Arguably the state's top sprinter Mariam Azeez (Sr) will be in the lineup. Her partner in crime Sophia Barnard (Sr) adds to the demise of any coaches trying to devise a plan to stop the Griffins.

4x400 (Lincoln-Way East 3:54.77/2016): The record is safe but we could see a time near 4:00. For starters, IL#2 Hinsdale Central has clocked 4:14.40. They will be opposed by some solid teams. Lincoln-Way East is strong with Azeez and Barnard. The Griffins have the top seed at 4:07. Plainfield North comes at 4:09 seed time-wise, they will fight with Prospect and Whitney Young for a top three-spot.
