Last year, incoming freshman Jack Jennings was a high-profile distance runner and did not disappoint. He stood out for Fremd HS by producing the only sub-15:00 mark in his class. Jennings was also the top-placing freshman in the 3A state meet, taking 41st with a time of 15:01. If there is an indication of him going through a sophomore slump, mute it. He enjoyed a great track season with personal bests of 9:16 and 4:22.
Thomas Jochum was the second-best runner behind his brother Tim Jochum of Glenbard South, who took the runner-up trophy in 2A last fall. Thomas ran 15:04 at the state meet to place 15th and was the top freshman in that race. Look for him to take another leap and become one of the best overall runners in the state, regardless of classification.
