This week's nominees:
Bennett Konkey (Jr., Geneva)- A solid football player who turned heads this past week on the track. Konkey burned the track on 4/14 at the Dukane Conference Tri-meet #1, 100 (10.25) and 200 (21.15). Outstanding efforts that add infusion to the sprints landscape if Konkey is here for the duration of the season. Konkey added a 10.67 at the Geneva VanDeveer Invitational. Note: none of the three performances had a wind reading attached.
Gabriel Greer (Jr., Marion)- Traveled to the Asics Carolina Distance Carnival and competed in the 3200 (9:01.03) and 1600 (IL#1/4:15.74). The two-day event displayed Greer's strong endurance stand and a note to 2A opponents next month for the state series.
Logan Abrams (Sr., Cary-Grove)- One of the state's best in-season throws, double performance in several years. Abrams won his favorite event, the shot put, with a 62'4.25" and returned with a laser DT 188'6.50."
Marlin Jeffries (Sr., North Chicago)- Popped a new state leading and US#17 all-conditions long jump performance of 24'9" at the Kankakee Co-Ed Invitational. Jeffries mark did not contain a wind gauge for legal status, but he has been consistent throughout the season, jumping 23'11.50" during the indoor campaign.
McKenzie Doe III (Jr., Chatham-Glenwood)- One of the state's most versatile track and field athletes, Doe 3 might be a heptathlete at the next level. For the Mascoutah Military Classic, he focused on the high jump and won it with a school record and IL#1 6'10.50", holding off his teammate Larry Wills (Sr), who cleared 6'8.50."
Patrick Peterson (So., Dunlap)- Is now rated #1 sophomore discus thrower in the country and IL#1/US#17 at 195'8" at the Ottawa Invitational. He is not a fluke, having tossed the plate 176' a few weeks ago. He has also thrown the shot put nearly 60', showing off his overall range.
Daylin Donaldson (Jr., Belleville East)- Continues to impress in the hurdles, sprints, and relay hand. Donaldson took the all-conditions state lead in the 110HH (13.64) and cruised to victory in the 300H (37.80). Donaldson has the top two fastest times in the long hurdles this season.
