The sophomore class dropped quite a bit of fire on the track

Chris Nelson proved true in his second year in the sprints. The speedster from Herrin produced the fastest time in the 100 at 10.48 (+2.1). Nelson carried a big plate during the state series and was unable to finish the deal in the Century, taking second. He earned a gold medal in the 4x200 relay. Also, he adds value to his resume with a 49.59 clocking and HJ clearance of 6-4.

The distance events were already stocked for next year courtesy of the presiding junior class. However, this unit produced a monster season that is certain to yield some fine returns over the coming seasons. Dylan Maloney (Plainfield South), Joe Bregenzer (Barrington), and Ben Crane (New Trier) broke the 9:20 mark in the 3200m led by Maloney's robust 9:14.66. Bregenzer earned all-state honors and his confidence should be soaring heading into the cross country season.
