The Post-Season Peak Review In Effect

A cascade of national-level performances dotted the landscape just before the onset of the July 4th holiday weekend. In it, several Illinois athletes took part in several weeks locally as well on the west coast. 800 Meter Jamboree, Brooks PR, and The Outdoor Nationals by Nike were the key meets. Review below content links from featured meets, both state-side and abroad.

Ali Ince proved that she is indeed real and intends to be around the prep scene for years to come. From the outset of the 800m race, it appeared as though the freshman star from Normal Community HS would be in the mix to place in the top three or even win it.

The opening half was fast and it continued to be hot with Ince leading the herd through the first 400 in approximately 61.6. Addy Wiley of Huntington IN and Allison Johnson of Ohio were 1,2,3 with 200 remaining. The pursuers could not overtake the gangly Ince who won in record time in terms of Illinois lore. The final time was 2:03.98 and it establishes Ince as the best to do it ever do in her first season.

-Several state notable performances here... The IHSA 3A Boys 4x800 state runner-up from Minooka HS was ready to make some big noise. Representing themselves as the Minooka Track Club, the squad placed third in a season-best 7:49.28. It was a 1:55.52 leg by second runner Vincent Van Eck that kept the team in contention.

Riley Ammenhauser (Naperville Neuqua Valley) didn't have her best day in the field, but she was able to walk away with All-American honors. Ammenhauser took fifth in the triple jump with a 40-4.25 effort. A third-place finish in the long jump should put a smile on any performer's face, especially if the mark is wind-legal. Ammenhauser cleared 19-6.25.

We have always stated that the future of Olivia Campbell of Pittsfield will be in the hammer throw. It appears as though those sentiments are correct. Campbell threw the 9th best performance in the country and her PB 167-9.

Jayden Ulrich of East Alton-Wood River atoned for her misstep in the discus throw competition and earned All-American honors in the Shot Put. Ulrich connected on a 48-10.25 throw during the second round that stood up for fifth place overall.

Micah Wilson of St. Charles East has put himself on the national board for the upcoming cross country season after taking a fine runner-up spot in the 5000m. He stayed with the lead pack throughout the race and when winner Simon Saia of Colorado responded, Wilson was able to hold his ground and run a fine 14:38.06.
