Class 2A Girls

Belvidere North claimed their second title in three years when defeated Vernon Hills 113-148. The Blue Thunder might be at the end of their reign now, but they are good enough with all seven starters back to go after their third title in four years. Gianna Sagona, Madison Diercks, Caitlin Corso, and Olivia Zaluckyj are seniors now and expected to give everything in their power to assist their team back on the top of the podium.

There are a few changes in the classification that will several former 3A standout programs to emerge. Benet Academy placed 11th in the state a year ago and will be a team to be reckoned with.

Individually, this should be another fun and exciting year. Defending champion Brooke Stromsland of Lakes is back and ready to defend her title. After producing an outstanding track season in which she placed second in the state in the 3A 3200m, the confidence along with high expectations will follow. Latin ace runners Ava Parekh and Marianne Mihas will be nipping at Stromsland's heels once again.

There is one name that you are going to get acquainted with real fast this fall. The name is incoming freshman Tatum David of St. Joseph's (Olney). She has destroyed the junior high ranks in 2019. She set a 1600m record running 4:57.09. She also won the SIJHSAA Cross Country Championship last year. Just this past Friday night in her first taste of Detweiller racing, David blitzed the legendary course in 16:54. Although she placed third, only Sabrina Schlenker of Barrington and Lianna Surtz of Rosary has a better pedigree coming in.
