Cross Country 2018 Is On The Horizon; Catch It If You Can!

Class A Girls-

It has been a back and forth affair between Tolono Unity and St. Joe-Ogden the last several years. Unity is the defending champion and SJO won it the year before. The roles were reversed in 2016. So what gives this season? Expect the same as both squads come in locked and loaded. They are no doubt the two best teams in Class A and the title will have to go through them. It will seem like a dual meet until we look at who will battle for the third place trophy. Monticello had an outstanding year but they lose four starters and will have some catching up to do.

Eureka is a team that you should be acquainted with. The Hornets return all seven runners including the individual title winner senior Emma Argo. Eureka competed in the 2A classification for track and finished second in the 4x800. Argo anchored a strong leg but was caught in the end. She will make sure that does not happen on the grass.

Rock Falls is another 2A school during the track season. They will be a force to reckon with seven starters back as does Herscher. Overall, there are many teams from last year stocked with returning talent.

We already indicated that Argo is the top choice in the race to first. Who could be second? Junior Caroline Jachino of Pleasant Plains placed second in the 3200 state meet. She is a strong candidate because of consistency. This is something hard to find in the Class A ranks. Karly Hey of Sterling Newman Catholic is another one. Her consistency was golden all school year long. She took fourth in both the cross country and track state championship (3200).
