In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger - Weekend Recap, Quotes To Live By, Yorkville's New Theme Song

Hello and happy first week of  fall. The weather is finally starting to cool off and I’m hoping it stays this way!  I’ve got a lot to write about this week so here we go.

I’ll start with last weekend, the First to the Finish Invitational.  Individually I took second to Maura Beattie, but really it was third.  Mailin Struck missed the finish chute because she didn’t know the course very well and it was very crowded, so great job to her, Maura and the rest of the field. My time wasn’t my best and it wasn’t a very good weekend for me, but as a team we took first and the boys took second, so as a whole had a pretty successful weekend.

The next week didn’t go quite as planned due to some rain that rearranged our workout schedule for the week but we managed to pull it together. We traveled to Minooka this past Saturday for the Flight meet.  At this meet, the races go off in seven different flights starting with the seventh runners of each team and moving up to the first flight. The boys and girls race together and it is kind of fun to mix it up and run with them. I ended up winning my flight along with my teammates Kelsey Leedy (2nd flight), and Maddie Dearborn(4th flight). As a team we didn’t have a very good showing due to some injuries but we are working toward getting everyone healthy for November 9th and hopefully we will be able to turn that around.

This coming weekend we will be competing at the Palatine Invitational. Normally we would be in the ACC Charger Classic, but this year we are taking the top seven to Palatine and everyone else will be at ACC. We’ve never competed at Palatine, but are expecting some very good competition and a new course which is always fun!

This week leading up to Palatine and ACC, Coach Muth gave us an assignment to find a quote that inspires us and put it up in our rooms or somewhere we will see it often, and if we want we can share it with the team.  So, here are mine:

- “There is only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything.” -Vince Lombardi

-‘The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” –Tommy Lasorda.

In order to be successful in your running or anything, you have to be dedicated to it and do everything you possibly can to get where you want to be. We didn’t win state last year by being comfortable during our runs.  You’ve got to push harder than everyone else and when you want to stop, think about what you’re working for and how much you want it.

And now I present to you, ”Draper’s Question of the Week #2!!!”

Would you rather have Cheetos fingers for a whole year, or have the only music you ever listened to for a year be this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE

That, by the way, is also our new team song. Although some oppose and claim it is “annoying” I think it is great!  How can you not love a song written about Yorkville? That’s all for this week and GO FOXES!
