In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger

It was a pretty normal week here in Yorkville. We started the week off with a hard 12 miler on Labor Day. Then on Wednesday we all suffered through rough 800 workout, but came back on Friday to redeem ourselves with a successful tempo workout. The majority of our team headed to Seneca on Friday for the Seneca Invite, but most of our varsity group stayed back for the tempo workout. I can’t say I’m not jealous of them getting to run a meet, but I guess it will just make Saturday that much more exciting. After reading all of the meet reviews from this past weekend I am more impatient than ever to race!

I think the word of the weekend was goals. After a somewhat “easy” long run, the girls’ team convened at my house to make goal tiles. Goal tiles are ceramic tiles that we decorate and write our season goals on. Then, when someone achieves their goal, they smash the tile. The real fun is deciding how you want to smash your tile. You’d be surprised how many ways we came up with for that. From smashing it with a hammer to goal tile baseball, I guess you could say we’re a little bit more excited now to achieve some goals. Making the tiles is a good way for us all to bond because we all know each other’s goals and can encourage each other, and when anyone breaks a goal we can all have fun helping them decide how to smash their tile!  We also used larger tiles to write our team goals on so we all have a clear focus of what we are working towards everyday.

Sunday we went for an easy swim and after decided to play on the big inflatable obstacle course the YMCA had set up in the pool. We showed those 10 year-olds what was up when we raced them across it! Actually, one of them yelled at us for being to slow, but I bet we would beat him in a three mile race,  I hope that it’s not there every time we swim or we might never get anything done. The coming week will consist of a hard run on Monday and a new speed workout we’ve never done before on Wednesday. Then we’ll have easy days on Thursday and Friday. And on Saturday...THE MEET!!! I’ll be back with another blog next week to let ya know how it goes, so until then, GO FOXES!!!
