In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, it has been very, very, very busy with school starting and all the homework being piled on us. Between school, homework and practice I’ve got quite enough to keep me busy. Even with the usual end of summer depression, the past few weeks have been some of the best yet.

Every year we have a team scavenger hunt to start the season. Everyone is assigned to a different color team(I was on orange) and the teams run around town taking pictures at different places. Although there is not an official winning team, the orange team definitely won.

The following morning was our first track workout of the season in total darkness, complete with a thunderstorm and only the occasional streak of lightning to read our watches by.  Oh and did I mention it was 5 a.m.?  It still ended up being one of the most fun and exciting speed workouts I’ve ever done.

The next weekend we started off with a 12 mile run on Saturday and got our costumes ready for Sunday! Our team volunteered at a water station for the Half Madness half marathon and dressed up in hula gear to match the theme of our station. Then, we took an hour break for lunch and headed out for our annual canoe trip. After two or three unsuccessful attempts during the summer, the weather finally allowed a sunny day for the outing. We finished the night off with a spaghetti dinner to prepare for our home invite the next day, but it was unfortunately cancelled due to the heat.  Speaking of heat, it hasn’t exactly felt like fall yet!  It’s taken a little adjusting to go from 6a.m. and 65 degrees to 3p.m. and 85 but we’re all starting to getting used to it. To avoid the bulk of the heat, we’ve been practicing at night when it is slightly cooler. Although that has its advantages, it also means I have to productive with my homework before practice; easier said than done.

Well, that pretty much wraps up the last two weeks, but something is missing… Oh yeah, a MEET!  We won’t be racing till the First to the Finish invite at Detweiller in two weeks because our home meet was cancelled, and it needs to come sooner. Needless to say I’m extremely excited for our first meet.  Detweiller is my favorite course and it will be fun to kick off the racing season with a meet there, it is also one of the most fun meets we have all season next to state.  My goal is to PR from Detweiller at Dark and to win again as a team. That’s about all I’ve got for this week so I’ll try to be more diligent about writing every week from now on. GO FOXES!!!
