Illinois Athletes Select Vanderbilt
Three Illinois track and field athletes will be headed south to Nashville next fall. Courtney Clayton of Honogeah, Sarah Bell of Bloomington Central Catholic, and Sarah Goodale have all committed to Vanderbilt University recently. Clayton, a mid-distance star, will join a Vanderbilt squad that has become one of the best distance programs in the area. Clayton is coming off of a great outdoor season last spring that was highlighted by a seventh place finish at the USATF Junior Outdoor T&F Championships and a state title in the 800m. Her PR is currently 2:08.48 for that distance.
Sarah Bell, who was ranked third last spring in the Pole Vault, will contribute right away for Vanderbilt. Bell cleared a personal best 13-3.5 to win the USATF National Junior Olympic T&F Championships last spring. Earlier she won the Illinois 2A title, clearing 12-0 to claim the top spot. Bell was also the Illinois Prep Top Times champ last indoor season which put her second in last years indoor rankings.
Sarah Goodale can do a bit of everything, and plans to do just that at Vanderbilt. The multi-event standout will continue her career for the Commodores. Goodale was fifth in the heptathlon last years Great Southwest Classic with 4494 points. She was third in both the high jump and 55m hurdles in last winters Illinois Prep Top Times meet. She went on to compete at State in four events - long jump, high jump and both the 100m and 300m Hurdles with her top finish coming in the 110H with a sixth place finish.
