Chicago, IL-
When it comes to a great indoor track and field invitational, there are many things to take in within a short time frame. For the CYUP Misfits Invitational presented by HOKA, one can argue that every event has something to ponder.
We have decided to pick select track and/or field events that are must-sees!
TRACK-
Girls 60m: If you thought last weekend was hot, wait until you see what happens on Saturday. There are 19 starters under 8.00 and the top 16 from the prelims make the finals. That means someone very good is going to be left out. These speedsters are sure to make the final: Angelena Bullocks (Sr., Chicago Whitney Young), Kyenret Rinkam (So., Brookfield Central), Kee'lani Whitlock (Sr., Chicago Kenwood), and Courtney McDonald (Sr., Plainfield East). Rinkam took second at the Akinosun Invite, running 7.53. It may take a 7.50 to win it this time. Bullocks is perhaps the state of Illinois' most well-rounded athlete, notching a personal best of 7.51. She will give Rinkam all that she wants. Whitlock and McDonald will add some fire to the field.
Girls 600m: A few class records and possibly the meet record could go down here. The one to watch is Janae Coleman of Michigan. She is a bonafide star already and is just a freshman. Her 1:32.54 is the fourth fastest time in her class.
HOKA Mile: MEET PREVIEW
Girls 300: This will be another barn burner. The meet record is 38.89 by Leeah Burr of Michigan, and it could fall. Naomi Bey-Osborne (Sr., Kankakee, IL) is a former state champion and will make her season debut. She has run the 400 in the low 55-second range. Angelena Bullocks is a 23.76w performer in the 200, making her a tough out. Nevaeh Burns (So., Oak Park, MI) may the favorite. She is an All-American long sprinter who has run 40.21 in her only attempt this season.
Girls 2 Mile: A loaded field with a dozen sub 12:00 performers. In addition, there are six previous cross country All-Americans. Mia Sirois (So., Barrington) will be doubling back from the mile but is the favorite. She is listed at 10:19 and could go under that mark if pushed early. Fellow standout in the field is Ella Hagen of Colorado. She is doubling back as well and has run 10:06. Isabella Keller (So., Effingham St. Anthony), Sundara Weber (Jr., Sandwich), and Kate Foltz (Jr., Tuscola) round out a great field. The meet record is 10:22. That could be taken down.
Boys 2 Mile: The winner's time goal is 8:50. A pacer will take the boys out in under 4:25. Jaden Merrick of Iowa will be fresh and ready to take down a tough field. His PB is 8:55.14. Keegan Smith of Tennessee is doubling back.
FIELD-
Boys Pole Vault: The last of the Viken pole vault family members is ready to take to the runway. Will Viken is a senior at Rolling Meadows HS, IL is a 15-foot performer to achieve 16 feet this indoor season.
Boys Long Jump: There are several 23-footers in the field, led by Parrish Hartley (Sr., Chicago Kenwood) and Kwabena Osei-Yeboah (Sr., OPRF). They are both 3A state champions.
Girls Triple Jump: The matchup that everyone has been waiting for is here. Dominique Johnson (Sr., Huntley) and Jordan Hamb (Jr., Chicago South Shore) make their season debuts. Both are state champion athletes who leaped over 41 feet last year.
