The highly anticipated Chicago Public League Girls Championship was presented at a new location and digs known as Knute Rockne Stadium. The refurbished all-purpose facility served its purpose quite well for its attendants.

Heavy favorite Whitney Young won its ninth consecutive varsity title, scoring 152 points. Kenwood tallied 106 ahead of Lane Tech and Agricultural Science 82. The Dolphins may have shored up future earnings by taking the frosh-soph division with 155 points.

Whitney Young won the first event of the day, the 800m medley relay, but the fireworks began with the 4x100. The Dolphins exploded and answered with the fastest time in the state, 46.42. It was also a meet record and one of the fastest ever times recorded by an Illinois team.

The Dolphins ace Angelena Bullocks (Jr.) may have solidified herself as the one to beat in the 3A state series for 100 and 200 meters. Bullocks crushed great fields with 11.59 and 24.54. Both times were wind legal.

South Shore International sophomore Jordan Hamb was not to be denied. Her growth in the triple jump has been evident this season, moving from the 37-foot range to an impressive 40'4.75." Later, she won the 100 HH in 14.46. Should she enter those events, she will be the favorite in the state series. Hamb also won the 300H in 46.42.

Mariyah Robinson (So., Simeon) would be a shoo-in for athlete of the week honors if not for Bullocks, who she finished runner-up to in the 100 and 200. Robinso was able to get one victory, the 400 in 55.89. Robinson was the state leader at this event.
