2023 AAU Northern Indoor Nationals Recap

The year's final indoor track and field invitational provided a glimpse into what will come for the 2024 season. It started with a dedication to the legendary Aurora Flyers Track Club coach Thomas Boatright. Meet director Marchan Adkins presented Coach Boatright and his wife with a plaque for their commitment and sacrifice to the sport of track and field.

800:

Girls- Charlize-Trinity McKenzie of Wisconsin roared out to a huge lead and hit the first 400 in 62.xx. The final result was a meet record 2:11.88, good for US#2. 

Boys- Nathan Ciarlette (Sr., Joliet Academy) set a personal best 2:02.38 and held on for the narrow win.


400:

GirlsBrisline Lankah (repping the Aurora Flyers TC) roasted the 12 yr old age group, the only performer under 60 seconds. The 8th grader Lankah clocked 59.94. It was sophomore Madalyn Marx of the Vipers TC/Mahomet-Seymour HS with the fastest overall time of 57.78.

Boys- Word on the street was "Just wait 'till you see what [Deangelo] Hughey does at the AAU meet," said his club coach Marques Lowe. Hughey did not disappoint as he got out lightning-quick 23.1. It was no contest as the senior from Mahomet-Seymour HS breezed home with his form intact in 49.13. 

1500:

Girls- Sundara Weber (So., Sandwich) pulled away with three laps remaining and stayed undefeated during the early part of the season, clocking 4:51.03.

60: 

Girls- Courtney McDonald (Jr., Plainfield East) is the current talk of the sprints world after another outstanding performance from the prelims to the 15-16 age group finals. McDonald took down a solid field to run 7.71 off her state-leading 7.64.  Zoe Wilson of Bryant, Arkansas, in the 17-19 age group, made her long trip worth it. She powered her way to a win in 7.86.

Boys- Josiah Brown (Jr., Champaign Judah Christian/Vipers TC)- set a personal best with an early state leading 7.03 from the 15-16 age group. In the 17-19 grouping, Landon Gallun of Wisconsin (MKE) took the title in 7.00.


200:

GirlsAnnabelle Coudron (Jr., Milwaukee Lutheran/Milwaukee Speed Academy) won the first of two sections in 25.22. Five of the six finishers were under 26.00.

Boys- Gallun returned later to win the overall crown with a time of 22.10
