EUGENE, OR-

"Alli" Allison Ince has been as consistent as any young woman in 2023. The now rising senior from Normal Community High School completed a long school season nearly two months ago. However, she is still strong after placing second in the 800m at the USATF Young Women's U20 Championship at historic Hayward Field.

Ince strode to the final as the top qualifier of Friday's preliminary with a time of 2:08.00. She was well aware of the talented field which featured the dynamic and the favorite Sophia Gorriaran of Rhode Island.

After a small spill involving two runners during the opening half-lap of the race, Ince was able to avoid it. She and Gorriaran were able to avoid and sped off out of trouble.

The first 400 was quick with Gorriaran and Ince leading the charge in 1:00.19 and 1:00.53.

With 200 to Gorriaran and Ince appeared to be safe and secure for the two slots available for the Pan-Am Junior Champs next month in Puerto Rico. They just need to maintain their momentum and push through the finish line.

Gorriaran took the gold medal in 2:04.33 and Ince the silver with a time of 2:04.22.

It was all smiles for the prep stars who will be making their first international competition in August.
