Palatine freshman Alex Krieg celebrates his first win in the high school ranks (frosh boys)

Hinsdale IL-
It was already sunny and humid before the first race that took flight at 9a at Katherine Legge Memorial Park. The Hornet-Devil Invitational would be the lead meet of a massive weekend filled with cross country action.
Boys-
Co-host #1 Hinsdale Central played a great host beforehand with the hospitality and pleasantries. However, it was all business once the gun went off. Right away the Red Devils' scoring pack moved to the front of the field. Led by senior ace Daniel Watcke, he hung to the pack (just like on the track) for a majority of the race, using a 5:01 first mile and strolling through the second mile in 10:05. It was smooth sailing for the defending champion who improved from 15:01 to 14:56 and six seconds better than senior Parker Nold of Oswego East.
The Red Devils repeated as team champions as well (see below)

Girls-
#2 Prospect coach Pete Wintermute had an alibi prior to the meet and he did not need it because his charges were strong enough to challenge for the team title regardless of the situation. The Knights are deep and good enough to keep several of their top runners on the lower levels for the time being.
The opening stages of the race was not very fast with the opening mile in 5:45. A stream of girls dotting Naperville Central, Palatine, Prospect, and others seemed content to hold back in unfavorable conditions. Senior Audra Soderlind of Oswego would take over the chores and led through the second mile in 11:37. However, she was being stalked by senior Hailey Erickson of Prospect. Erickson took the lead shortly thereafter and roared home for the win in 17:40- more than 21 seconds better than Kate Tueting of Naperville Central.
Prospect won the team title solidly without a great effort from junior Lily Ginsberg who finished ninth and left two frosh runners down at the lower levels. Had they been inserted into the varsity races, the margin of victory would have been greater.
