2022 Boys State Sectional Central Recaps

Berwyn-Cicero Sectional
Summary: Chicago Marist 4x800 (8:02.27) and Lyons Twp 8:05.89 move on to Charleston; Berwyn-Cicero 3200 duo Alex Bacci and Daniel Chavez continue their dominance 9:26.79 and 9:28.05. Louie Leahy of Richards also qualifies in 9:30.89; Owen Forberg and Jake Phillips (Chicago Marist) move on to state in the 1600 with times of 4:18.95 and 4:23.96

Carol Stream (Glenbard North) Sectional
Summary: 15 state elite performances dot the landscape of this championship. Michael Campbell of Rolling Meadows takes down the 300H field with another solid 38.97; York leads the 4x800 corps w/7:56.28; state discus throw leader Lucah Jones of Lake Park cruses w/165'2.25"; Desmond Horton (Lake Park) earns IL#2 in the TJ (48'0" PB) and also wins the LJ (23'5")


Glenview (Glenbrook South) Sectional
Summary: It was a big day here where a ton of Chicagoland Northshore teams produced some outstanding marks. Nathan Shapiro has a career day with wins in the Century (10.59), 300H (38.67), and LJ (24'4.25"); two of the state's elite distance runners Nick Falk and George Cahill of New Trier will cruise to the state meet by going 1-2 in the 3200 (9:19.06, 9:25.99) & second and third 1600 (4:20.68, 4:23.55)- Aidan Simon of Loyola Academy wins in 4:17.98 PB; Prospect was DQed in the 4x1 but the sorrow was turned to happiness in the 4x200 (IL#1 1:27.29)

Grayslake Central Sectional
Summary: Luke Wiley (Warren) takes two wins: 3200 (9:19.72) and 1600 (4:20.37); Jhermari Mabry (Palatine) won the SP (58'6.75") and David Mun (Vernon Hills) laces the DT with sectional best and IL#2 182'9.25"; Caleb Levy (Warren) is victorious in the 800 (1:54.37)

Harvey (Thornton) Sectional-
Summary: One of the first sectionals to begin the journey toward advancing to state. There were 18 elite MileSplit performances led by the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, producing three qualifiers each. Homewood-Flossmoor was the big winner in both with  42.16 and 1:28.04 IL#3; last year's state runner-up Jake Mackowiak (Lincoln-Way Central) was a big winner in the long jump with a solid 23'2.25"; one of the state's best discus throwers Jonathan Young of Andrew heaves the plate 170'10.5"

Huntley Sectional
Summary: Riley Lundgren of Harlem wins the DT (171'7"); Zachary Petko (Cary-Grove) takes the SP (58'3.25")

Lockport Sectional
Summary: It was a massive performance by the 4x800 field which sent five teams to state. Hinsdale Central and Sandburg waged an intense battle that no one saw coming. The net results produced US#2 and US#3 marks 7:42.16 and 7:42.42. For Hinsdale Central, their feat was done without the services of superstar junior Daniel Watcke who was not on the relay. He won the 800 in 1:53.77. Downers Grove South also dipped under 7:50 at IL#4 7:49.91; Brett Wasick (Bolingbrook) took second to Watcke in the 800 in a near dead heat 1:53.79; Maverick Ohle of Naperville Central is one of the talented young throwers on the scene. He moved on to Charleston with a strong DT that landed 180'2.50"

Gabe Czako (Lockport) is IL#5 14.40 in the 110HH; eight runners advance in the 1600 making this the deepest field in the state. Marcellus Mines (Joliet West) continues his comeback trail in 4:16.65 PB; Hinsdale Central ends the meet with another state leading mark, the 4x400 in 3:21.44 (five total teams advance)

Maywood (Proviso East) Sectional
Summary: Lane Tech wins the 4x800 in 7:55.78 (two others advance); Hunter Whitney (Lane Tech) is the victor in the 1600 (4:21.04); Isaac Rice (Chicago St. Ignatius) picks up four gold medals (100, 200, LJ, 4x100)

O'Fallon Sectional
Summary: Ryan Watts of Edwardsville qualifies in two events but it's the 3200 (9:16.84) that is the sectional best mark; Daniel Lacy (Champaign Centennial) wins the 400 (49.42); Edwardsville 7:56.71; Centennial 42.39 and 3:22.96; Alex Sohn (Normal Community) wins both throws 176'3.75" and 60'11.50"; Charlie Nolan (Normal West) is the state TJ leader 48'2.75"

Rock Island Sectional
Summary: The biggest performing sectional with 45 elite marks. A fleet of 100m qualifiers move on Charleston led by Minooka's Tyler Colwell and Cael Hiser. They will be in the 200 as well as the 4x100.

St. Charles North Sectional
Summary: over 30 elite performances makes this sectional one of the deepest. The track world was captivated after hearing about Joshua Duncan's electric runs in the 100 (10.31) and 200 (21.24). The senior from St. Charles North is in line for something special in Charleston if he can duplicate his feats again.

Batavia gets two relays wins: 4x1 (42.25), 4x2 (1:28.26), and 4x4 (3:22.35); Wheaton South wins the 4x1 in 42.21

Toriano Tate (Dekalb) wins the IL (23'0"); five discus throwers advance behind Zachary Marsico (Wheaton-Warrenville South) 167'
