Breakdown: It was a surprising year with the exclusion of the indoor season. Unlike the pole vault, there isn't a cult following in the triple jump nor are there any known academies or barns to which athletes can flock to. However, there were some great performances from a handful of emerging jumpers. Now that there are eight of the top twenty returners back on the scene, we may be able to see more uniformity. There are ten performers who leaped over 45-feet returning.
3A runner-up Desmond Horton appears to be the guy to beat this season. He comes from a long line of great jumpers from his high school. So don't be surprised if he gets over 50-feet this spring. Nicholas Deloach is in the same predicament as Horton because of historically outstanding coaching. Crete-Monee and St. Laurence both have two quality jumpers that will aid their scoring causes.
