2A Boys preseason preview: can anyone halt #1 Morton?

The scene was as intense as imaginable in last year's Shazam Championship. Morton beat a tough foe Mahomet-Seymour 104-154 in the flight scoring option. Both programs are expected to fight for the state championship in November.

Head Coach/Assistant Coaches: Head Coach: Joe Zeller, Assistant Coaches: Dave Getz and Joel Zehr
Last Year's Finish: 2A ShaZam XC Champions
Key Returners: Josh Weeks (So.), Yonas Wuthrich (So.), Cade Zobrist (Sr.), Chase Sauder (Jr.), Keegan Anderson (Sr.), Luke Kunz (Sr.), Tristan Sturhahn (Sr.)
New Additions per coach Zeller: We have had two guys join us so far this summer from our middle school team that placed second at Shazam: Christian Harris (14th overall) and Charlie Klopfenstein (53rd overall).

Coach Zeller's Outlook: I am excited to see what the boys can get done this year. I know they'll go into the season with a target on their back, but they're up to the challenge. The boys learned a lot last year racing at the level that they did and they'll carry those experiences into this season. They have some lofty goals, but I think they also have the drive to go and chase them down.

Carson's Outlook: The only change that is happening in Morton this year is a bit of a coaching swap as assistant Joe Zeller now takes the head coaching role, as former head coach Joel Zehr moves to an assistant role on staff. The Potters return all seven members of their D2 ShaZam Championship team. The real question will be if anyone can beat this squad this season.
