Our defending champion, however, is not from the north--Glenwood hails from central Illinois! The Titans came out on top in an epic scrum where Glenwood, Vernon Hills, Grayslake Central, and Lakes were separated by only five points for the first four positions. Glenwood, as we will discuss in their team preview, is a powerhouse with talent development from their feeder program. But the gap to the field is minuscule. Articulating exactly how wide-open 2A in 2021 is will be difficult, so consider this: as many as ten teams have a legitimate shot at the title, and even twenty teams could end up earning a state trophy. The void that Benet Academy leaves behind is an even more compelling team race that will be incredibly fun to follow all season long.
