MileSplit IL Senior Spotlight: Khullen Jefferson

Don't take his subtle kindness for weakness. The soft-spoken Khullen Jefferson by the eye test could be mistaken as a distance runner. Tall and slender at best, Jefferson put many foes on notice over the past several years. The standout from Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing had a breakout campaign in 2019 where he placed fourth in the 3A 400m. By the end of the IHSA school season, he reached a personal best 48.34.

Flash forward to the 2020 indoor season, Jefferson traveled to several top-notched indoor track meets. The first stop was the prestigious Texas A&M University High School Indoor Classic in early January. It was there that he dropped a state-best 49.07 in the prelim. More impressively was the final where he initially clocked a -48.69 before mysteriously getting disqualified despite winning section two. Perhaps before denied officially national elite prestige would have driven Jefferson to tremendous heights this year. We will never know.

Jefferson indicated that he will miss the atmosphere of sports among other things before he moves on to The University of Iowa. He added, "playing sports with my childhood friends and racing against multiple people that I've known for years."

We wish Khullen Jefferson nothing but the best in his future endeavors!
