Andrew Saloga was on his way to the top of the pole vault chain after taking second in the 2019 3A state championship as a junior from Aurora (Marmion Academy). He connected on a then-personal best 15'3" and was ready for more. Unfortunately, for Saloga, he was not able to improve on his state performance at the New Balance Nationals Outdoors Championships.
The 2020 track and field opened well for Saloga who traveled to the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno NV. There against a strong field, he cleared 16'4" to place sixth overall which featured a then national leader Scott Toney of California.
Unfortunately, the season was cut short due to Covid-19 so we never know what Saloga's full potential would have been. The next stop for Saloga is the University of Kansas. That's right! The same spot as the best pole vaulter in state history: Zach Bradford. Best wishes to Andrew Saloga in his future endeavors.
