1600m-
Defending Champion:
Marianne Mihas, Chicago (Latin), 5:07.54
Key Returners: Ailey Mitchell (Sr., Shelbyville), Fran Hendrickson (So., Champaign (STM)), Kennedy Calcagno (So., Elmhurst (IC Catholic), Caroline Jachino (Sr., Pleasant Plains),
Julia Wolke (So., Arlington Heights (CLA)), Carly Manchester (So., Elmhurst (IC
Catholic)), Riley Vickrey (Sr., Alton (Marquette)), Karlie Hey (Jr., Sterling
(Newman Central Catholic)), Lydia Camp (Sr.,
(Harvest Christian Academy)), Hunter Davis (So., Clifton (Central)), Maleigha Huston (Jr., Bushnell (B.-Prairie City)
Outlook: Camp enters outdoor with the IL 1A #1 5:16.15 from the Showcase meet back in January. One breakout performance from indoor was Hunter Davis (Clifton Central) who dropped her PR twelve second to 5:20 for 1A #3. Mitchell is the highest returner in this event, but her 5:11 1600 best from state prelims is not the fastest returning time--Loyola commit Fran Hendrickson sports a 5:10 time from Distance Night in Palatine. Expect these two to be at the front of the 1600 conversation this year. The remainder of the returners, headed by Calcagno, Jachino, and Woke, comprise a dense pack behind these frontrunners, but the talent is even enough this year that we should not expect runaway champions like we had last year.
