DGS Relays Preview: It Will Go Down Monday Evening At NCC

Boys-

Teams:  Batavia, Bolingbrook, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Burlington Central, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Geneva, Glenbard East, Glenbard West, Glenbrook North, Hinsdale South, Kaneland, Lake Forest, Lane Tech, Lockport, Metea Valley, Minooka, Montini, Naperville Central, Niles North, Plainfield East, Plainfield South, Romeoville, Sandburg, Shepard, St. Charles East, St. Charles North, St. Ignatius, West Aurora, West Chicago, Whitney Young Willowbrook, Yorkville

4x800 (7:45.80/Sandburg 2016): Let the fireworks begin! York has set the standard at 7:59.62. It will also be a chance for some of the best squads in the state to get under their seed times and re-populate the leaderboards with the national respect that we deserve. Batavia is a team that is very dangerous as they have two guys under 2:00 and three more at 2:00-2:01. One of the two seniors Adam Kennedy and Damian Rodriguez could lead off and set up a very fast opening. With no other clear cut favorite for the silver and bronze medals, teams like Sandburg, Lane Tech, West Aurora, Minooka, and St. Charles East will look to avoid a jammed up mix after the first leg. The fifth-fastest time in the state right now is 8:27.21. We could see 20 teams under that mark, and that would make the distance faithful very happy.

4x200 (1:30.50/Plainfield South 2011): Usually the lowlight if there is one for this meet. It's hard to believe that no team has ever broken 1:30. It doesn't appear as though it will happen this year either. But what is in the cards are fun and excitement in the way of reckless baton passing, crashes, and close racing to keep the fans on their feet. Be sure to pay attention to section four because the 1:36 group can surprise you. But in reality if things go according to the script, it will either be Batavia, Minooka, or Lockport for the win.

4x400 (3:22.63/Plainfield South 2011): The "Showstopper" should be a very good one to stay for. IL#2 Lane Tech will roll out its top squad in hopes of establishing some respect and win a title here for the first time. The Indians are going to need to supersede their season-best 3:28.87. Two other top ten ranked teams are in the field by the likes of Plainfield East (IL#4) and Batavia (IL#6). Plainfield South has the turbo-boosted Niko Schultz in tow. Minooka and especially last year's 3A state runner-up Lockport is extremely dangerous. There is no doubt of a thrilling end to events in Naperville!
