2020 Class 2A Girls Pre-Season Sprints Preview

300m Hurdles -

2019 State Champion: Veronica Sherrod (Sr., East St. Louis), 43.97

Key Athletes: Sherrod, Emelia Ness (Sr., Monticello), Kynzee Boastick (Sr., Urbana), Madi Mclain (Sr., Benton), Ali Rapps (So., Geneseo), Megan Weilmuenster (Jr., Freeburg), Mallory Cyrulik (So., Clinton), Brooke Barkocy (Jr., Burlington Central)

Breakdown: It is hard to not marvel long hurdlers who can endure the pain of upholding their main events file assisting in other areas from their respective teams. Veronica Sherrod appears to be the class of this field. One of the top returners regardless of classification, the defending champion will set her eyes on a repeat and maybe the state record (42.14) held by another Flyerette.

This could be more points added to the team point total as well, but Emelia Ness who wants points for her team also will look to dethrone the champion in the process. Ness impressed with a runner-up finish is capable of going much faster than 44.77.

This is not a truly deep field, but athletes such as mainstay Kynzee Boastick and Madie McLain will look to make things interesting and attempt to move up the podium. Ali Rapps, Megan Weilmuenster, and Mallory Cyrulik didn't make the final last season, look for them to use that as motivation this season to step foot on this event's podium... a name that could be easily forgotten is Brooke Barkocy. Although she slipped a bit last year in stature, her personal best is 45.27 from 2018. If Barkocy can get back to that form she will be a tremendous threat to the establishment.
