O'Callaghan is a great success story. The former Sandburg Eagle was never the top runner on the Eagle team as he was always "a part" of the Sandburg 4x800m teams. When he got to college that changed. He originally attended Southern Illinois University- Carbondale and took his game to a new level for the Salukis. His 1:58 PR from high school was down to a 1:51 by his sophomore year of college which prompted O'Callaghan to transfer to the Illini. He enters his first ever national championship of his career as part of the 9th ranked Illini DMR team. This is just a great story of someone working their butt off and it paid off in the long run.
