An official press release came out today stating that ex-Illinois sprinting great Adam Harris (University of Michigan / Wheaton North H.S.) has been selected to run for the Guyana Olympic squad at the Olympic Games which start in August in Beijing, China. Harris, who is the reigning Big Ten T&F Athlete of the Year, was selected to compete for Guyana in the 200m dash, an event he earned the Olympic "B" standard in earlier this season.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Adam Harris (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) of the
University of Michigan men's track and field team was named Friday (July
25) to the Guyana Olympic team for the upcoming 2008 Olympic Summer
Games.
Harris, whose mother was born in Guyana, became the Wolverines’ latest
Olympian when he received notification that he had been named to the
country’s Olympic Team to compete in the 200 meters. He is Guyana’s only
qualified male athlete for the upcoming Olympics.
Harris, a senior sprinter for the upcoming track and field season, is
the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the
Championships for the outdoor season. He earned the Olympic ‘B’
qualifying mark (20.75) when he won the 200-meter event at the Big Ten
Outdoor Championships in May.
With the addition of Harris, a total of six current and former members
of the Michigan men’s track and field team will be participating in the
2008 Olympics this summer.
