Every state in the Union can brag about their best team or set of best teams. That is a given and a nature birth right to do so. However, when it comes to boys cross country, it would be incredibly hard to argue against the West Suburban Conference (Silver Division) not being the premier league in Illinois. It may also be the top conference in the country. Elmhurst York is perhaps the most famous high school when it comes to distance running boys or girls. The Dukes legendary head coach Mr. Joe Newton built the program into a power house of which 28 state titles and 7 national titles (1 NXN, 6 mythical ones depending on who is telling the stories). The example that York has set is now being followed by Hinsdale Central (2x defending 3A champs), Lyons Twp., Downers Grove North, Glenbard West, and Oak Park-River Forest.
