Recap on Minooka’s past meets-

The Minooka Boy’s Inaugural track meet was run on the 19th of April. The invitational went great with new personal bests and achievements. Also the Minooka boys had a meet the following Monday which was our senior recognition night. Being a senior is still a shocker to me! It feels as if yesterday was my freshman year competing. There is a saying that I know of and it goes like this, “compete in every meet like it is your last”. Well every meet now is the last time I will be running there with the same team. I, as well as a large number of our athletes, will be graduating this year. Some of us will not be competing on the collegiate level, so their countdown must be underway. It’s a sad topic to keep on your mind as an athlete. That’s why nobody thinks about it! It just creeps up from behind at the last possible second. But enough about this, let’s talk about the last meet we ran at!

The Bob Cohoon Invitational was the last meet we had run at. This meet usually hosts some talented runners, so the competition was pretty good. The sprint side of the meet went great, as well as the field events and the distance! I always feel bad when talking about the meets because I do not get the opportunity to watch all the events. However when I do get the chance to watch some events I am never disappointed! The first events ran were the prelims and the 3200m. These races had some pretty good talent. The athletes from Minooka running in the prelims hadn’t really gotten the chance to show what they’ve got in the open events before that and oh boy did they shine. Mitch Miller and Victor Turpin both made me and others proud! Both making it to finals and scoring some points to bring home the plaque! It just goes to show that there is some depth in the program.

The relays went well also. The 4x100 relay had gotten the silver to Oak Park-RIver Forest and the 4x200 had gotten the gold. The 4x200 relay is what I really want to talk about. This relay again shows the depth of our team. The relay had already lost two runners for the time being, but shortly before we started our alternate runner had tweaked his leg. With a last minute decision, we had gotten the spot filled by one our long jumpers. We haven’t done hand offs together, or even ran together! Guess who stepped up to the plate and helped bring home the gold? There were multiple athletes who stepped up to the plate and performed amazingly, I feel ashamed of myself for not realizing the talent of our team.

Team sports are big in the development of great, young minds and it's no different at Minooka High School

Overall the meet was run smoothly and without any problems! Minooka had gotten the plaque and performed to our greatest abilities! Thanks for reading! Athletes stay healthy and teams stay as one!
