Hello track world, Eric Walker from St. Rita High School in Chicago back at you after a long hiatus. The last time I spoke to you all I was gearing up for the Top Times meet. I didn’t perform up to my expectations against a strong field. I have moved on from that and used it as a learning experience heading into outdoors.
We had our first outdoor meet this past weekend in Chicago at the Windy City Classic Relays. This was our first time competing in this meet. The night before there was a banquet where we had the opportunity to dress up and mingle with the other competitors as well as hear from 2014 Olympic Bronze Medalist Aja Evans and 2013 World Silver Medalist Alexandria Anderson. Their words of wisdom were great and very motivating to me and my teammates.
For the meet I debuted in the 4x1 and 4x2 relays, this is the first time in my high school career that I’ve ran on those relays. We performed well for our first go round, the 4x2 time is currently ranked in the top 10 in 3A and our 4x1 time is somewhere in the top 20.
This week at practice we will make corrections with our handoffs and I will continue to get work in for both hurdle races. This week of practice must be a good one for my teammates and I because we are headed to the Metro East to do battle with some of the state’s best at the Winston Brown Invitational at Edwardsville.
We missed our chance to compete at the Belleville Invite two weeks ago, but some of the same teams will be present this weekend. We’ll be staying overnight so that will allow our team to bond and create more stories and lasting memories. We are looking forward to this test this weekend. If you run into me at a meet feel free to have a word or few, I’ll give you a shout out on the blog.
Thank you all for reading and good luck to you all!
