Zack Smith Blog: Checking Back In

I'm very exciting to be checking back in this weekend!  It was an exciting week for my teammates and I due to Mustang Relays this past Monday night.

The 4x800 that night surpassed some already high expectations for us as we ran a 5 second school record of 7:55.87.  We knew we were fit and had the ability to run sub 8 going into the race, but I think that we all realized our true potential when we ended up being well under 8.

Tony Zea, Jack Diamond, and Ryan Clevenger all ran great races from start to finish- putting us in a position to record such a fast time indoors.  Despite a bunch of great performances, we all know that we have room for improvement.  We know that small improvements by each leg can drop our total time a relatively large amount, and we are working towards this goal. I preface to say outside of our performance, big props to Lane Tech for running 7:54 and giving us a great race.  Having someone to run with definitely benefitted both team's times.  Overall, Mustang Relays could not have gone much better for us in the 4x800.

Now that the relays are behind us, we have turned our attention to the WSC Silver Conference meet this Friday.  The meet should be filled with a bunch of great races, especially in the distance events.  Obviously, with such great competition, points will be difficult to come by on Friday.  There is no doubt that it will take top level marks in every distance event in order to even score for the team.  Despite the great competition, we are confident going into the meet and are looking to score big points in every distance event in order to contribute to a run at the team championship.  There is no doubt that every event will be fun to be a part of and fun to watch no matter what the end result is.  We are very lucky to get to compete against the best teams in the state in the best conference in the state.  Hopefully some of you check it out on Friday!  Thanks for reading and I will be back next week!
