Eric Walker Blog: I Will Be Back

Hello track world, Eric Walker back at you with blog number two. It has been a very difficult seven days for me since I wrote my last blog. Why you ask? I had a minor injury from my hurdle race in Kentucky and my coach decided to hold me out of competition this past weekend as well as have a modified practice.

There's no worse feeling than sitting on the sideline while my teammates are out there giving it their all or seeing my chief competitors run great times and all I can do is watch. As much as it hurts to not be able to compete I understand the need to get healthy and stay healthy, the most important meets for everyone are the ones near the end of the season.

There is no need to risk jeopardizing the goals of the teams or my individual goals in early March. It’s better to make friends with the sideline early in the season than later on when recovery time might not be on your side.

This year will be a great one for hurdlers across the state, this past weekend's matchups on the track proved that. As a hurdler I was anxious to see some of the times that some of the great individual matchups would produce. The Thornwood Open produced the state's top two times and the ICOPS meet gave me a firsthand look at some of my competitors at the Chicago Catholic League (CCL) meet in a few weeks. I'm so ready to get back on the track with my team and chase some of the times that are faster than mine. Good luck to everyone in their upcoming meets and stay healthy.
