In Her Own Words: Skyler Bollinger - We Are Family

Right now I want you to think about your very best friend and how much you completely can’t live without them.  Think about how much your life would suck without them and how bored and depressed you would be all day. Now, replace their name with YHS foxes cross country team, because that is how completely, wonderfully amazing my team is. I love my team. I love my coaches and my teammates and everyone that I run with every day.

I don’t get up at 5 a.m. on Sundays to run 12 miles because I enjoy drowning in sweat for an hour and a half. Well I mean I guess I do kind of like it, but more than that I do it because I LOVE MY TEAM!  If I had to run by myself without a team I don’t know how I would stay motivated. Some people actually have to do that and I am in awe of how they can carry on alone. We do everything together and get through every workout together. We are best friends and I don’t know what I would do without each and every one of them. Once you become part of something like a cross country team, you can’t just leave or quit, it becomes your life.

When I went on a family vacation for a week last summer, I had the time of my life, but I was more than relieved to be back home and with my other family. I never run out of things to talk about with my team. I could live with them and sometimes it seems like we do live together. Of course we get annoyed with each other every once in awhile but that is sure to not last very long, because when your running together, or rather, when you’re about to pass out during a workout and think you can’t go any further at all, and you hear your teammates encouragement, you remember why you started in the first place. You started for your team.

I’m not part of a cross country individual, I’m part of a cross country team, and I sure am glad I’m apart of the Yorkville cross country team.  We aren’t the biggest or the best.  We haven’t won seven consecutive NXN titles like Fayetteville-Manilus, we don’t have a 1 to 5 split of 12 seconds or a team of 200 people, but we love each other and I wouldn’t want to be on any other team, no matter how fast or talented, if I had the chance. I would want to be a part of the Yorkville Foxes, no question about it.  GO FOXES!!!
