The 121st Annual Boys Track and Field State Championship had to be among the most anticipated meets in a very long time. Coming into the meet there were a lot of compelling questions that had to be answered. Among them were: 1) Could Kahmari Montgomery (Sr., Plainfield Central) win the rarely achieved " sprint triple crown" of track and field which entails 100-200-400; 2) Cahokia would be going for a historic fifth 2A title in a row. But are they really the best overall team in Illinois; 3) Jesse Reiser (Sr., McHenry) proved that he was the king of Illinois distance running over the past full season; 4) Who would come on late and surprise the Illinois track and field world; 5) Josh Eiker (Sr., Galesburg) is a great sprinter in his own right. He wants a piece of the sprint accolades as well. Can he upstage Montgomery?

Neuqua Valley boys established themselves as the relay squad to beat in the 3A finals at Illinois State Meet in rolling to fast prelims times of 7:45 in the 4x800 and 3:17 in the 4x400. More highlights from day one!
Charleston will be the place to be this weekend if you are looking for big time high school track and field. Eastern Illinois University and O'Brien Field will feature the top talent in the state. Kahmari Montgomery (Sr., Plainfield Central, Jesse Reiser (McHenry), Zach Dale (Conant), Cary Lockhart (Bloomington), and more are expected to light things up.
There is good news and bad news for the state of boys track and field in Illinois. The good news is Cahokia is heavily favored to win their fifth state this weekend inside of O'Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. The bad news is the Comanches are expected to be even better in 2016 when the likes of superstar Ja'mari Ward, Tyran Lyons, and a fleet of other well oiled moving parts will be seniors.
Nothing is guaranteed and everything must be earned. With that being said it appears as though Tolono (Unity) is the team to beat. The Rockets have a ton of arsenal to complement their name sake. The outlook for their relays and individual players seem unstoppable. The Illinois Top Times Indoor meet gave us some insight on who to look out for as the outdoor season calendar turned May and eventually into the post-season.
